Networking

Working with other people - in your community and beyond

Neighbourhood Planning is something to be shared and worked on with lots of other people. It will be helpful to build a wide network and meet people across Birmingham who are making change happen in their communities.

Your Neighbourhood Planning Forum needs a minimum of 21 members.

Then of course you will need to talk to many other people who live, work and run businesses in your Neighbourhood Area.

And do consider people and groups beyond the boundary of your Neighbourhood Area. They will be impacted by your work too and have valuable ideas to contribute.

It’s a good idea to make contact with the Neighbourhood Development and Support Unit (NDSU) at Birmingham City Council (BCC), early on in your Neighbourhood Planning journey. They will introduce you to a host of useful people, including those from:

  • Neighbourhood Planning Forums in other parts of Birmingham

  • Key community organisations and residents’ networks in your area

  • Your local councillor(s)

  • BCC’s planning officers who cover your area.
